Obituary for James Earl Denney

James Earl Denney, 75, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. tomorrow at Ridout’s Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel. Brother David Barker and Brother Tommy Smothers will be officiating. Interment will follow in Dancy Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.



James was born October 20, 1941 in LaGrange, Georgia to Ethredge Homer Denney, Jr. and Maggie Gilam Denney, who both precede him in death. He was a 1959 graduate of Trinity High School. He was Baptized at New Friendship Baptist Church in Somerville. James was well known in North Alabama and surrounding areas as a Backhoe Operator. He had a great love for Deer hunting, Alabama football, and NASCAR racing. He loved his family, especially his grandkids.


Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Geneva Payne Denney; one son, Jerod Lee Denney, of Huntsville; four daughters, Loni Guyse, of Trinity, Cindy (James) Daugette, of Somerville, Lisa (Larry) Mallard, of Trinity, and Brandy Guyse of Trinity; two brothers, Windell (Jennie) Denney, of Trinity, and Roger (Tillie) Denney, of Georgia; one sister, Diane (Tommy) Hayes, of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandkids; several nieces and nephews; and his trusted and best friend, his dog, Luke.



Pallbearers will be Mark Walden, Scott Hazen, Hank Payne, Robert Payne Jr., Robert Payne Sr., Kooter Cowart, Jake Powers and Robert Ricks. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Etheredge, Jason Etheredge, Danny Beck, James (J.J.) Daugette, Mike Rogers, Randy Cox, Dwayne Davidson and Daniel Powers.


The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the great care they provided. Special thanks to Laurel, Marilyn, Gidget and Jennifer.
